Term Time Holiday

The 2006 Education Regulations allowed Headteachers to grant a leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term in time in 'special circumstances' of up to 10 days leave per academic year.  However amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holidays as well as the threshold of 10 days.  The amendments make clear that the Headteacher may NOT grant ANY leave of absence during term time unless there are 'exceptional circumstances'.

Exceptional circumstances are at the discretion of the Headteacher, who must be satisfied that the circumstances warrant the granting of leave, criteria such as Service personnel home from duty would be appropriate.  The Headteacher should determine the number of school days a child can be absent from school IF leave is granted.

In light of the changes, Wildground Junior School will no longer authorise ANY applications for family holidays, cheap holidays, free holidays, birthdays, family gatherings etc.  An application for 'Leave of Absence' is not the same as a 'holiday request' - there is no longer any entitlement for family holidays during term time.

As of September 2013, Wildground Junior School will only authorise 5 days 'leave of absence' if approved under the 'exceptional circumstances' criteria.

If children are taken out of school without authorisation, a penalty notice may be issued and a fine imposed by the Local Authority.
