Snow and Ice Plan

Picture 1

Safety

When snow and ice is forecast our priority is to keep children and staff safe. Our site team will grit as much of the site as possible to allow safe passage but please be aware even though some routes are gritted they may still  be slippery.

Safe walking routes

We will prioritise gritting of the pathway from the infant school main gate as the primary route for all children. The secondary route will be from the main Junior school gate to junior reception. It is likely that the back gate leading onto Heatherstone Avenue will be closed.

Snow conditions

In heavier conditions (such as snow) we have to assess whether it is safe to open the site and whether we can staff the site adequately.

We have to consider

  • Is the site safe to use?
  • Can we provide meals at lunchtime?
  • Do we have adequate adult to child ratios?

When we are confident that the school is safe and we have the appropriate amount of adults then we will open the school.

Communication

We will inform parents and carers via email, the website and facebook page  as soon as possible if the school is closed for an emergency closure.

Hampshire County Council website will also be updated with the latest news across the area. Their website address is https://www.hants.gov.uk/education/schoolclosures

If your child attends Planet Kids after school, you need to contact Planet Kids to check arrangements.
