Term Time Holiday

The 2006 Education Regulations allowed Headteachers to grant a leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term in time in 'special circumstances' of up to 10 days leave per academic year.  However amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holidays as well as the threshold of 10 days.  The amendments make clear that the Headteacher may NOT grant ANY leave of absence during term time unless there are 'exceptional circumstances'.

Exceptional circumstances are at the discretion of the Headteacher, who must be satisfied that the circumstances warrant the granting of leave, criteria such as Service personnel home from duty would be appropriate. The Headteacher should determine the number of school days a child can be absent from school IF leave is granted.

If children are taken out of school without authorisation, a penalty notice may be issued and a fine imposed by the Local Authority.

If further clarification is needed please contact the school office.
