School Menu & Lunchtimes

At Wildground Federation, we believe the best lunchtime option for children is a hot meal, provided through our partnership with Edwards and Ward. We strongly encourage parents of children in Key Stage 1 (Years R–2) to take up the Universal Infant Free School Meals offer. We believe that a hot school meal has a positive impact on children’s learning, health, and wellbeing.

Research shows that:

  • Children are better prepared to learn when they eat well
  • Children make greater progress when they have a nutritious lunch
  • Only 1% of packed lunches meet the recommended nutritional standards
  • Eating a hot meal is an important social experience that helps children develop vital social skills

School meals cost £2.85 per day and must be paid for in advance via the Arbor Portal. Each day, children can choose from a red, green, white, or yellow meal option.

If you believe your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, please inform us as soon as possible.

Special Dietary Requirements

If your child requires a special menu due to dietary needs, allergies, or other requirements, please complete the special diets registration form. If your child has medical dietary requirements and is not registered with Edwards and Ward, they will be unable to provide a school lunch.

Packed Lunches

If you choose to provide your child with a packed lunch, please be aware that we promote healthy eating. We ask parents not to include sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks, or glass bottles. A carton of 100% fruit juice or smoothie is acceptable. We encourage children to bring home any uneaten food in their lunch box so parents can monitor what has been eaten. Please note that we are not a nut-free school.

Children attending Wildground Nursery are required to bring a packed lunch from home.

Lunchtime Activities

Each lunchtime, there are many activities for the children to enjoy. The lunchtime supervisors regularly introduce new equipment and games. Currently, the activities include hula hoops, traditional playground games, colouring, dressing-up, playdough, building blocks, and more.

For children who need extra support during playtimes, we have a special play area that is designed to be inclusive. With a high ratio of adults to children, this area helps support children in social situations and those who may feel anxious in larger groups.
