Text Driver Word Webs

To support our children in developing a rich vocabulary, we use text driver word webs that are linked specifically to the high quality text drivers used to underpin our learning. The aim of these text driver word webs is to deepen the children’s use and understanding of language. We expose children to this higher order language with the intent that children will then apply new vocabulary within their speech and their written outcomes. The text driver word web has become an integrated part of our English learning walls and they are also available for the children to access within the classroom independently.

Vocabulary Ninja

Vocabulary Ninja is a scheme designed to deepen the use and understanding of language. The aim is to encourage both children and adults to use a higher order language, both in their speech and in their writing. A new word will be introduced each week and children can experiment using the word in different ways. They need to discover the different meanings of the word and how this can change when adding a prefix or suffix. A child from each class, who uses this word in the most effective way will be celebrated in assembly, receive a certificate and have their writing displayed in school. Please try to encourage this project at home too. You can use this vocabulary in your everyday speech, when completing homework or by inventing different songs.
