Why do we teach DT? (intention)
The Design and Technology Curriculum should give children opportunities for thinking technically, designing, experimenting and evaluating as well as constructing purposefully. The mastery curriculum enables children to have a rigorous and deep understanding of these vital life skills and to continually build on them, year by year. Enabling the children to become innovative and enterprising will prepare them for all the possibilities they will encounter in their futures.
D&T within the school inspires a love of possibilities; the children are encouraged to research, test and adjust as they create and to look at it as a process, continually adapting and modifying based on their discoveries and experiments. Its inclusive approach gives all pupils a chance to shine.
Food and Nutrition is a vital life skill and will enable the children to develop a love of cooking, allow them to be creative and offer inclusivity for all children to express themselves creatively and become adults who can feed themselves and others.
