Rights Respecting School Award

Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos.  This is an award which is given to schools on behalf of UNICEF.  To find out more about the Rights Respecting Schools Award please visit http://www.unicef.org.uk/rrsa

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights.  In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.  This is made up of 54 articles, which set out the entitlement of all children across the world. It also specifies that the Government, Parents, Carers and any organisations concerned with children will have a responsibility to ensure these rights are provided.  A summary of the articles can be seen by following the link.

At Wildground we have been awarded the Recognition of Commitment and are now working towards our Silver Award. The Rights Respecting School Award will support our ongoing aim for each of our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community. By learning about their rights our pupils, your children, also learn about the importance of respecting the rights of others.

We hope to continue to update this dedicated area of our school website, which will host lots of information about these rights and how we are promoting them across the school community.  We really hope that you will feel able to support us and your child in working towards our goal of formally becoming a ‘Rights Respecting School’.
