  • Food Larder

    Tue 26 Jan 2021

The Food Larder is for the benefit of those in the local community who are on a low income and is to help them stretch their finances by reducing the weekly food shopping bill.   This is done by way of a low cost membership scheme which enables them to have a bag of fresh food and store cupboard items on a weekly basis.

The Larder will be operated by Fare Share who will bring a mobile van with refrigeration unit to a location each week, and has been set up in partnership with Fare Share, CAB, NFDC and Waterside Foodbank.

The Food Larder will be coming to

    •              Marchwood Village Hall on Mondays 12.30 -2pm from 25th January 2021
    •              St Annes Community Centre on Tuesdays 12.30-2pm from 26th January
    •              Queen Elizabeth Recreation Centre on Thursdays 9.30 – 11am from 28th January
    •              Calshot, St Georges Hall  on Thursdays 12.30 – 2pm from 28th January

A bag will be prepared in advance, and the Food Larder strives to offer a variety of products which can top up their cupboards and fridge. It is estimated that the “bag” will hold an average of £10-£15 worth of products (dependent on household size). A typical bag can include some of these items: Pasta, rice, coffee, tea bags, tinned meats, tinned fish, tinned desserts, soups.

To apply for membership, a Fareshare application form needs to be completed and proof of ID and address needs to be provided. Applications forms can be requested by emailing  FSSouthernCentral@fareshare.org.uk, or as a client you can provide a form, or they can fill out a registration form at any Food Larder there and then, and pay and collect their food at the same time. FareShare will contact the client when they can start using the Food Larder.
